Very rare and original, ca1900 Pair of Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Buffalo Hide Moccasins.
This beautiful Pair of turn of the 20th century Sioux Moccasins each measure approx. 10 1/4" long at their stiff, parfleche hide soles. The decoration is beautiful with a stylized tepees executed in colors of red white-heart, cobalt blue and chalk white on a medium blue field. The Moccasins are sinew sewn and feature contiguous cuffs and applied tongues (one tongue is detached).
The Moccasins offered here are unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. They are NOT reproductions or modern recreations but original Sioux Moccasins crafted around the turn of the 20th century. This rare and original, Pair of ca1900 Sioux Bead Decorated Moccasins are in very good condition and display nicely. There are some short tears to the hide at the junctions of the cuffs and at the heels and there is some stiffness to the uppers especially the cuffs. As stated above one of the tongues is detached (though present). The beadwork is beautiful and generally well preserved with some scattered loss to both Moccasins most evidently at the heels. The surface of the beads is soiled and a gentle, careful cleaning will significantly improve the look of this outstanding pair of Sioux Moccasins.
