Crystal Area Navajo Rug

Description

This rare almost antique "Crystal"
area Navajo was woven in the 1950s early 1960s by Agnes Smith. Agnes used vegetal dyed wool yarn that was hand sheared, hand vegetal dyed from local reservation plants, hand carded and hand spun. This "zig-zag" pattern is a hard to master "wedge weave" and the subtle purpler is desert hackberry vegetal dye. This weaving is from the collection of the owner of The Zuni House Trading Post that closed in the 1960s. Always stored away in a mothproof trunk this weaving is in loomed condition.
