Description
Large Navajo rug, hand woven of natural and dyed wools, with a twisted edge cord. At first I thought I might be a Teec Nos Pos design, but someone with considerably more knowledge than me corrected that misconception, so now I'm calling it a regional design, though it was mentioned it could also be a Crystal. Either way, you have to admit, it's busy and striking. Measures 30 inches wide by 38 inches long. Condition is excellent - lays flat, with a tight smooth weave, there's no pulls, no fuzz, no moth bites, all corner tassels intact, no odors, from a non-smoking home. I held it up to the light to see if there were any moth bites, and couldn't even see light thru it. Weaver is unknown. I purchased this rug from a Cowan auction at some point prior to 2012, but don't recall the exact date, nor how much I paid for it, and no information came with it. The rug is more pre-owned than used, I never displayed it, just packed it away after purchase. The gray and brown fibers appear to be natural, I don't know if the other colors are vegetal dyed or commercial dyed. It's a lovely rug, and would make a statement as a wall hanging.Keep an eye on my auctions, as I'm downsizing my collection of Native American art, necessary due to advancing age and a move to a smaller home, and I'd like to see my treasures find new homes with people who will truly appreciate them.
